Queiroz new Real boss

Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz has agreed a deal to become coach of Real Madrid for the next two seasons. The former Portugal and South Africa boss attended his first Bernabeu press conference this evening and declared: 'This is the most famous club in the world. They have built a great part of the story of world football and I am really looking forward to meeting the expectations of the fans.'

Beckham to join Real in £25m switch

David Beckham has agreed to sign a four-year contract with Real Madrid, scuppering Barcelona's hopes of luring the England skipper to the Nou Camp.

Manchester United confirmed that they had accepted a bid of £25million for the midfielder, and that he had already settled personal terms with the Spanish club.

Real remove Del Bosque, release Hierro

Real Madrid instituted a major shake-up at the club on Monday by deciding to replace coach Vicente del Bosque and also release captain Fernando Hierro just a day after clinching their 29th league championship.

Del Bosque took charge of Real Madrid after the sacking of John Toshack in November 1999. In less than four seasons in charge he steered the club to two European Cups, two domestic league titles, a European Super Cup, a Spanish Super Cup and a World Club Cup.

Real's sporting director Jorge Valdano then announced that the 35-year-old Hierro would be leaving the club after 14 years during which he won three European Cups and six league titles.

Sampdoria sign Juve's Zenoni on loan

Newly-promoted Serie A club Sampdoria have continued the overhaul of their squad by signing Juventus defender Cristian Zenoni. The 26-year-old defender, who struggled to win a starting place with the Italian champions last season, has been acquired on a one-year loan.

Zenoni is the latest player to come to Sampdoria on loan, following defender Aimo Stefano Diani from Parma, Cristian Doni from relegated Atalanta and midfielder Massimo Donati from AC Milan.

Sheringham to join Pompey

The 37-year-old, who was released by Spurs at the end of last season, will join Croatian international defender Boris Zivkovic in Hampshire, the Bayer Leverkusen star also opting to move to Pompey.

Sheringham, who scored 11 goals in 51 games for England, has a career total of over 300 goals for Millwall, Nottingham Forest, Spurs and Manchester United.
